Best Wan Chai Causeway Bay Restaurants—Sister Wah
10 consecutive years of Michelin Bib Gourmand award.
Address: 13 Electric Rd, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
Opening hours: Mon–Sun 11:00–23:00
Full review & menu: Cheap Restaurants in Causeway Bay—Sister Wah Beef Brisket
My friends and cousin who lives in Hong Kong all told me that Sister Wah is one of the best Causeway Bay restaurants. Sister Wah Beef Brisket received the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for 10 consecutive years and is well-known among both locals and tourists, so there could be a slight line. We came here on a Wednesday afternoon and waited for around 10 minutes or less.
The broth is savory with a hint of sweetness. And unlike other brisket soup that I had in HongKong, it isn't overly salty and doesn't make me thirsty from MSG. The ho fun (thick rice noodles) were smooth and not overcooked to be too soft, the light aroma of rice perfectly complements that soup.
The brisket has evenly distributed fat with thin strips of bouncy connective tissue. It's extremely tender and juicy. In the beef brisket, tendon & tripe noodles, the tendon is cooked super tender but not overly soft, retaining a nice bouncy texture also, also soaking up the flavor in the soup. The honeycomb part on the tripe is crunchy while the smooth muscle on the side is soft and chewy.
Sister Wah offers very generous proportions, providing not just a huge bowl of soup with plenty of beef, but also a large serving of noodles.
Best Wan Chai Causeway Bay Restaurants—Sun King Yuen
Most popular Wan Chai restaurant among locals.
Address: G/F, 20 Spring Garden Lane, Wan Chai
Opening hours: Mon–Sat 11:30–14:30; 18:30–20:30
Full review & menu: Best Restaurants in Wan Chai—Sun King Yuen Curry Restaurant
Sun King Yuen is very popular among locals as one of the best Wan Chai restaurants, so there's typically a line especially during lunch and dinner hours, for both take-out and dine-in. Lining towards the left of the store is the take-out line. From 11:30–15:00 there are discount food boxes at only HKD$55 dollars each. Towards the right is for dine-in. I came on a Thursday evening around dinner time, and I stayed in line for around 20 minutes. My cousin said that it's usually not such a long wait.
The pork chop in the pork chop curry rice is thick and huge. They also offer generous proportions of rice, which filled the bottom layer of the plate in a heap. The curry sauce is served in a separate bowl with a large chunk of potato in it.
The curry sauce is slightly spicy which makes you want to gobble it down with rice. The pork chop tastes great with or without dipping it in curry sauce. It is super tender with slivers of tendon distributed evenly within, giving it a nice bouncy texture. It's very juicy, especially the even thicker parts near the bones, I felt like savory juice was exploding in my mouth as I bit down.
The Beef Chow Fun contained large pieces of beef that are quite thick for beef slices. It's extremely soft and tender with no sign of drying or being overcooked. The rice noodles are cooked perfectly, which makes them bouncy and flavorful, having sucked up all the delicious sauce.

Best Wan Chai Causeway Bay Restaurants—Weilong Food Court
Best Wan Chai street food with great value.
Address: Shop B, 4 O'brien Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
Opening hours: closed on Sundays
This is a hidden gem and one of the best restaurants in Wan Chai Hong Kong that you cannot find much about online. If you Google it you would find Weilong BBQ Food Court which is NOT the same restaurant. (Search "味龍美食坊 O'brien" to get the correct results.) However, they can be found on Google Maps.
I wasn't able to find their opening hours or phone number. But through observation, I know they are closed on Sundays and open from the morning till pretty late at night. We came a few times around 10 or 11 at night. It's also at a very convenient location at exit C of Wan Chai subway station.
The most notable thing about this store is the amazing value making it one of the must-try cheap eats in Hong Kong. They provide large servings at HKD$36 for 2 dishes with rice and HKD$45 for 3 dishes with rice. They mainly offer home-style Cantonese dishes.
Weilong Food Court offers slightly different dishes each day. Sometimes they have classic Hong Kong dishes such as spare ribs with black bean sauce but my two favorite are available every day. One is the black fungus mushroom chicken, it's very flavorful and addictive. The meat is tender and soft, paired with the crunchy black fungus, the dish provides satisfying layers of texture. The other one is the stir-fried veggies. I'm not sure why but this simple vegetable dish is somehow extremely savory, eating it alone with rice is like a dish of Chinese risotto.
Best Wan Chai Causeway Bay Restaurants—Twelve Flavors
Most popular spicy stir-fry hot pot.
Address: G/F, 21 D'Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, Central
Opening hours: Mon–Fri11:30–15:30, 17:00–2:00; Sat–Sun 11:30–2:00
This store is at Central but it's only about 10–15 minutes by tram from Wan Chai to Lan Kwai Fong. But if you are staying in Causeway Bay it would be a bit further.
This is a chain Sichuan restaurant and not Cantonese or Hong Kong cuisine like the stores listed above. My cousin took me here cause she knows I love spicy food and this is one of here favorites.
The most popular dish at Twelve Flavors is the Signature spicy stir-fry hotpot.
It's spicy and numbing, especially delicious with tofu skin, enoki mushrooms, and thick glass noodles as toppings. My cousin's husband enjoys adding SPAM (pork luncheon meat) to the mix. It tastes spicy with a hint of sweetness. If you love spicy food like I do, you have to come here!
