Simple Pumpkin Soup Recipe to Improve Your Gum Health

(Jump to recipe) (Jump to video) I made this soup because Ares had a toothache the other day and I wasn't sure if he was up for any chewing. Even though I know there is no magical food you can take to cure ailments and what you need to do is eradicate what has caused the issues to begin with, I still believe that there are certain foods that can help you heal and are good for your health. Plus, what can you do when the people around you get sick or injured? Really. All I can think of is to Monica all over the place and feed them what's best for them.

My Research–Pumpkin Soup Recipe and Gum Health:

I went through some articles and saw that a dentist recommended pumpkin soup with carrot and spinach for patients with periodontal disease. Food that promotes gum health is exactly what I'm looking for! But she was a dentist, not a chef. Her recipe involved boiling everything in water, blending them, and adding salt. No. Not in my kitchen. So I added some spices of course.

I have a habit of adding turmeric or cinnamon in my food because they help regulate insulin levels. There are also studies supporting the anti-inflammatory benefits of curcumin and that piperine aids its absorption. Which is why we often see turmeric and black pepper capsules nowadays.→ Therapeutic Roles of Curcumin: Lessons Learned from Clinical Trials

I initially added cloves for the flavor, but I went slightly overboard the first time–cause I honestly love them–and Ares complained. To make himself feel better, he told me to Google the health benefits of cloves so that he could at least justify eating them. Turns out that there are many studies that proves cloves can kill bacteria, specifically bacteria that causes gum disease. One even showed that using an herbal mouthwash containing cloves improved gum health within 21 days. I'm starting to believe that I'm a natural at food therapy!→ A comparative study of anti-plaque and anti-gingivitis effects of herbal mouth-rinse containing tea tree oil, clove, and basil with commercially available essential oil mouth-rinse

Without further ado, let's jump right into our recipe!

Pumpkin Soup Recipe Ingredients:

475g pumpkin

300g carrot diced

120g spinach chopped to bite-size

1/2 onion finely diced

1 clove garlic minced

450ml water

600ml milk

150g grass-fed ground beef

Some avocado oil (or olive oil)

Pumpkin Soup Recipe Spices and Seasoning:

1/4–1/2 tsp ground cloves

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/2tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 tsp black pepper

1 1/2 tsp salt

Pumpkin Soup Recipe Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 220℃/428℉.

2. Cut the pumpkin open and remove the seeds in the center, then chop the pumpkin into chunks.

3. Place the pumpkin chunks on a baking pan lined with parchment paper, flesh facing up, and drizzle with avocado oil.

4. Flip the pumpkin chunks so that the flesh is facing down. Rub the oil around the flesh as you do so.

5. Roast in the oven for 15–30 minutes or until the pumpkin flesh is tender

6. While the pumpkin is roasting, in a pot, add 1/4 tsp of avocado oil and sauté the ground beef until fully cooked. Do not add salt.

7. Transfer the ground beef into a bowl and set aside. Reserve the juice left behind in the pot.

8. In the same pot, add 1/2 tsp of avocado oil and sauté the garlic and onions until translucent.

9. Add the diced carrots and sauté for 1 minute more without adding more oil.

10. Turn on low heat and cook covered. Your pumpkin should be ready by now, peel the pumpkin as the garlic, onions, and carrots continue to cook. Don't worry if some of it sticks to the pot, as long as it doesn't burn, we will deglaze later.

11. Add the peeled pumpkin to the pot and mash it with your spatula.

12. Pour in the water, milk, and add all the spices/seasoning. Stir as it cooks. Using your spatula, scrap the sides and bottom of the pot to deglaze.

13. Bring to a boil then cook covered on low heat for 3–5 minutes.

14. Throw in the spinach and cook for 1–2 minutes while stirring.

15. Serve with the ground beef on top and a few extra scrunches of black pepper.

Enjoy your soup and I hope you all have strong healthy gums that never bleed!
