Many Instagrammers have already visited MiraWan Eatery on the 47th floor of Breeze Nanshan, which received a Michelin the Plate recommendation in 2020. Here I am so that FOMO doesn't get me. A little reminder, the elevator to the 47th floor is on the east side of the building, which tells us nothing. Here's a better direction: it's in a different building from the one you would usually shop in when visiting Breeze Anshan. Enter through the entrance that is across from the entrance next to Manolo Blahnik.
Taipei Restaurant with A View—MiraWan Eatery: Reservations
You can make a reservation at MiraWan online through inline app. On the website, you can choose to reserve a window seat, which is what most people go for since its 47th floor location boasts a view of Taipei city. You also have to leave your credit card information when you make a reservation. You must let MiraWan know of any changes 3 days in advance, your reservation will be held for 10 minutes, if you cancel your reservation within 2 days of the reservation or are a no-show on the day, you will be charged NTD$1,000 per person.
I made a reservation for the afternoon, so I got a phone call 3 days in advance to ask if I wanted to reserve the limited Floral Jewelry Box set for 2. The Floral Jewelry Box is one of the must-orders at MiraWan so naturally I said yes. Keep reading to see the beautiful photos!
Taipei Restaurant with A View—MiraWan Eatery: Price Range
From the location and story level you should already know that this is a pricey restaurant, the average cost is at least NTD$1,000 each. If you want water, you will be charged NTD$150 each, they offer still water, sparkling water, and warm water; this is honestly something I have not yet seen anywhere else in Taiwan. It's not like we can have tap water here.
When I went to MiraWan, the minimum spend during afternoon tea is NTD$800 each, the Floral Jewelry Box for 2 is NTD$1,680 plus 10% gratuity, which is almost exactly the minimum spend. But they have announced on their website that starting from April 1st of 2023, the minimum spend for afternoon tea will be NTD$1,000 and the Floral Jewelry Box for 2 will be NTD$1,880 plus 10% gratuity. For lunch time, the minimum send is NTD$1,700 and NTD$2,000 for dinner.
If you had lunch before afternoon tea, 1 set of Floral Jewelry Box for 2 is honestly quite enough, the waiter said so himself as well and encouraged us not to order anything else. Personally, I think they are being a bit difficult with this minimum price change.
Taipei Restaurant with A View—MiraWan Eatery: Afternoon Tea
Time for the main event, let's take a look at the Floral Jewelry Box! Well, before that, I want to share something funny.
When they called me to ask me if I wanted to reserve a set, the caller clearly told me that it was called a Flower Basket. I distinctly remember this because I was very confused and asked him what it was. Like, is it food or am I just buying myself flowers at a restaurant? So on the day, I asked the waiter "this is called a...flower basket...?" He was appalled and replied incredulously "How could you say those words? It's called Floral Jewelry Box!" His facial expression and tone was so on point, I still giggle when I replay the scene in my head. His exaggerated flamboyance was so amazing, I loved it. I'm giving them 10 extra point for this gem of a waiter.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Seasonal Fruits with Serrano Ham
The Serrano ham on top is made into the shape of a rose, with gold flakes sprinkled on top. The presentation is flawless.
On the bottom is the classic combination of crackers, grapes, and some light whipped-cream. The grapes are skinless, which makes the texture softer and smoother. However, I find that its impeccable appearance was the culprit of its compromised taste.
Theoretically, the ratio of these ingredients should be just right. But since the Serrano ham was made into a rose, even if you put the whole tart into your mouth at once, the ham slices are still stuck together and can't be properly distributed with the sides, making it a bit too salty overall. I often buy Serrano ham at fancy super markets to make cold cuts for Ares. Even though mine would look pathetic next to MiraWan's Seasonal Fruits with Serrano Ham, I think they tasted better.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Hand Cut Pork Pâté with Fine Herbs
Pâté is just meat loaf or meat pie in French. MiraWan's Hand Cut Pork Pâté with Fine Herbs has this asymmetrical beauty. But it's honestly just eye candy. I sincerely detested this dish. The only upside was the texture of pork's fat, which immediately melted in my mouth, but it was overall too greasy. Despite the great texture, the fat had an oily stench that I almost could not stomach. The droplet of sauce and herbs on top did not get rid of the stench, instead they amplified it. The remaining savior was the crackers which kind of covered the stink. All that glitters isn't gold.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Madeleine
The madeleine from MiraWan Eatery was good. It has the desired firm texture that is satisfying and turns soft after a few chews. There were bites of orange peels which added a nice aroma and crunchy texture.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Spicy Cheese Crisps
The Spicy Cheese Crisps were quite average. You can see a layer of chili and cheese powder on the surface, but it wasn't really spicy. It mainly tasted like sweet cookie with milk. The flavor of cheese only came out at the very end. It kind of tasted like my dog's milk cookies. Which I'm not sure if is good or bad cause I used to love having them as a low-calorie snack, but I really wasn't expecting having dog treats at a Michelin restaurant.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Vanilla Macaron
If you love sweets you might like the vanilla macaron, but I found it to be really sweet, too sweet, unbearably sweet. However, MiraWan can't really be blamed for that cause macarons are literally constructed with confectioner's sugar.
The vanilla macrons are decorated with drizzles of caramel, which created this messy but neat aesthetic.
The vanilla wasn't particularly distinct, I only got a whiff of it at the back of my throat towards the end. I couldn't visually see any vanilla seeds either, which should be obvious tiny black dots. I'm not sure if the recipe contained white chocolate or it was the vanilla resembling white chocolate because of the extreme sweetness.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Cheese Cake
There is an edible flower placed on top of MiraWan Eatery's cheese cake, beneath the flower is a white ball which I determined was milk pudding. The cheese cake itself was rich and smooth with a hint of sour that was just right, which kind of like the taste of sour cream. I loved it.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Black Sesame Canelé
I found the Black Sesame Canelé from MiraWan to be extremely creative. The single popcorn on top which decorated the canelé is adorable.
It doesn't really taste like a canelé, aside from the surface layer, it's filled with mousse on the inside and tasted strongly of black sesame. In the very center, is a small mochi which added a chewy surprise. On the bottom is a layer of cookies, which brought an additional crunchy texture. I don't think it's really a canelé, but more of a canelé-shaped dessert; however, I think the innovation is commendable and it tasted good as well.
MiraWan Eatery—Floral Jewelry Box: Tiramisu
There's a layer of mildly bitter coffee power on top, paired with the slightly sweet mixture of mascarpone and heavy cream on the bottom; the silky concoction wrapped around my tongue like therapy, it was great.
It is a tried-and-true fact that tiramisu is best enjoyed with whiskey or rum. There is a small dropper filled with whiskey stuck on top of MiraWan's tiramisu so that you can choose to add whatever is the right amount for you. I added all of it. The punch of the whiskey and the creaminess of the tiramisu was addictive.
But lil' moi who has not had a drop of alcohol in the past 4 years actually started feeling tipsy after I finished it. This is embarrassing! I used to be able to down 30 glasses of whiskey without blinking, talk to my professor on the phone after, and get every drunk party attendee home safely. Why am I exposing my own dark past? I am out of practice. My point is, if you have a low alcohol tolerance, definitely watch out. This tiramisu can get you drunk without you knowing like a nice sweet cocktail.
Taipei Restaurant with A View—MiraWan Eatery: Drinks
All 3 of the drinks we ordered were priced at NTD$220. The Floral Jewelry Box set for 2 came with 2 drinks. My friend ordered a Double Espresso, which was of course, tiny, it's called espresso, so she also ordered another glass of Rose Sencha. I got the Strawberry Raspberry Fruit Tea. Both cold drinks look beautiful. Aside from the gorgeous colors, they were also decorated with lemon slices.
There was nothing surprising about the Rose Sencha. Sencha is a type of Japanese green tea. It is prepared by first steaming the tea leaves then shaping them and drying them. The leaves are dried by being pressed and exposed to dry hot air, which gives the tea a distinct aroma, almost as if they were pan-fried. There were two dried lemon slices in it. Since they were dried, they only brought a slight lemon scent to the drink, without adding any sourness. The drink mainly tasted of sencha and the light fragrance of roses. It was nothing I wasn't expecting, but I found it to be nice and light. It gave me this calm comforting feeling of effortless relaxation. My friend didn't like it though. As I said, it tasted exactly as its name implies, so you just got to know whether you like sencha and roses.
The Strawberry Raspberry Fruit Tea was sugar-free, which was a pleasant surprise. It had this beautiful hot pink color of berries with two fresh lemon slices. It tasted slightly sour and not at all sweet. It is a refreshing and thirst-quenching drink which goes especially well with desserts. It also served as a great palette cleanser in between different snacks.
